How to plan social media for the month.

Why is it important to plan out your content:

At the end of every month, I sit down to create my plan for social media. I do this monthly because trends quickly change and I want to make sure that everything is covered.
Planning your content out will help you do a few things:

  1. Relieve the stress of having to figure out what you’re going to post for the day.
  2. Be consistent. We hear about this all of the time, but it’s still important when you are building/maintaining a brand.
  3. Most importantly (to me anyway) I get to do more of what I love.

Today, I’m breaking down how I plan my content for social media.
Once you get the swing of it, your social media post will become easier to manage.

Here are the things I consider when coming up with my social media plan

Establish a Goal for each Platform + Pick platform

Before you start making the content, you need to make a S.M.A.R.T goal so you can know what kind of + how much content you need to make. Having one goal is easier to focus on and you won’t be overwhelmed.
Here’s the goal we’re going to use for this post: Goal: Increase Brand awareness.

I want engagement on my post. More likes. More followers. People who respond to things that I post. Within 30 days. I will determine if it is working based on likes, comments, followers, and other interactions with my account. I will do this by engaging more with other accounts and they will reciprocate (if they love my content)

Announcements + Mandatory Touchpoints:
What do you absolutely have to post this month? Sales? New Offers?

Posting Schedules:
How many times will you post a day/ week/ month? Depending on the platform, you can decide how much you want to post. For example, you would post on Twitter wayyy more than you post on IG because the content lifespan is short on Twitter. Everything moves very quickly vs on Instagram where it can be seen for days.

Break down:
What are you going to do?
How are you going to do it?
How will you measure success?
What are your KPI’s?

The theme for the month:
I like to pick one overall theme, and then I break it down into weekly related topics.

Content Purpose:
Why are you creating this?
How does it connect to your big goal? (Ex: to engage, educate, etc)

Content-Type:
What kind will you use to show this purpose? (Ex: Polls, tips, offers etc.)

Content Ideas + Finding inspiration:
What’s trending on your tl right now that can be related to your business?

And that’s it. Then I move on to creating and posting.
