How to Build a Classic Brand & Stand Out Against Competitors

So, you’re looking to get your brand to stand out more, but you’re not sure where to begin. Well, we’re here to tell you that the best place to start is by creating a classic brand built around your core business goals, and I’m sharing my secrets as to how! Let’s get into it.

What is a Classic Brand?

If your brand stands out from the competition and resonates in your consumer’s mind, you’ve got yourself a classic brand. A classic brand often offers so much value in its products or services, that consumers start to perceive these offerings as their very own category, especially distinct from competition.

For real, what better way to take more control of your market than with a classic brand? Regardless of how saturated your market may be, there’s always a way to building a truly classic brand that’s hard to forget.

So, we’re going to share with you 3 of our 5 key components to building your own classic brand. This 5-step strategy taken from my Cosmopolitan Countdown has helped countless brands gain the advantage needed to stand out authentically as a brand.

#1: A Classic Brand Has Vision

Vision means long-term. A classic brand has a clear vision for its market, and executes accordingly. This often involves thinking outside the box, but you already know… great things lie just outside of our comfort zones!

If that means finally putting out that content you keep second-guessing, DO IT! Build your vision from the ground up, and don’t stay comfortable doing it. Ultimately, this vision is going to shape how your brand communicates, from style, to medium, to channel and much more, so it’s important you and your team are crystal clear on it.

#2: A Classic Brand Adapts to Change

A classic brand can stand the test of time and situations, no excuse! If your brand isn’t equipped for any market or competitive challenge that arises, then it’s not classic enough.

What did Apple do when Spotify disrupted the market in 2011 with music streaming, and provided users access to 40 million songs for just a small monthly fee? They evolved. Not long after Spotify, they also began to offer a streaming subscription, and even made the music app more colorful and customizable for users. Still today, Apple and Spotify are hot competitors, but that’s the whole point. Instead of being completely forgotten, Apple stayed in the game by adapting.

#3: A Classic Brand Builds Relationships

This one’s a no-brainer: your customers are always first. They represent the markets that you want to establish strong, long-lasting relationships with. If you want to stand out, make sure nobody else is as good to them as you are.

And I’m not talking just 1-1 sales. You’ve got to also create a relationship with your audience through your digital social media channels. Offer incentives, knowledge, and help them create the value they seek.
